In the middle of the city, the Christmas markets are literally bursting at the seams, especially during the current season. An all-you-can-eat Christmas market hides on one corner, while a Nordic fairytale Christmas awaits you on the next. If the crowds in the city center just get too much at some point, you have to look for winter fun a little away from the center. Destinations such as the Spreewaldweihnacht or the Liebenberg Christmas market, which are around an hour away from the city, are ideal for this. But if you want to get a little closer, we recommend the big winter wonderland with Christmas on Ice at Strandbad Grünau. Just 30 minutes from the city center, there is not only an atmospheric Christmas market with lovingly designed huts and festive light decorations, but also a real adventure world with real ice rinks, ice skating discos, children’s playgrounds and much more.
Since November 14, 2025, Strandbad Grünau has been transformed into an exciting winter adventure realm. Unlike most winter worlds and Christmas markets, this one does not close for the holidays, but remains open until February 15. One of the special highlights of this winter wonderland is “Christmas on Ice”, which takes place on December 25 and 26.
On Christmas Day, you can skate on the 100 m² real ice rink and enjoy the winter atmosphere. On Boxing Day, the legendary Christmas on Ice party awaits you with well-known Christmas carols and atmospheric Christmas hits. The regular event starts at 10 am, followed by a skating disco with a live DJ from 5 pm to 10 pm directly on the ice rink. In addition to the regular Winter World program, there is also the legendary Ice Disco, which takes place every Friday from 5 pm with changing themes and live DJs. The après-ski party also takes place every Saturday from 5 pm to 10 pm. On the dates 29.11., 06.12. and 13.12.2025, however, the après-ski party only starts at 7 pm.
The New Year’s Eve special
On 31 December 2025, a varied New Year’s Eve program awaits you with a New Year’s Eve run and a New Year’s Eve on Ice party. The New Year’s Eve run takes place from 10 am to 5 pm and offers an atmospheric warm-up with a live DJ, skate disco and a special sparkler run. Afterwards, the New Year’s Eve on Ice party for young and old starts at 6 pm and continues until 2 am. With the ticket for this party, you can use the ice rink, the indoor games world, curling and the party huts free of charge, and the festive New Year’s Eve program also includes a fireworks display at 8 pm and another at midnight. Start the New Year right on the ice in a perfect atmosphere and say goodbye to 2025 in style!
