The most popular summer treat is without a doubt ice cream, andBerlin’s numerous ice cream parlors invite you to enjoy it to the fullest on hot days. But now the classic scoop of ice cream has some competition—from a specialty that has made its way to Germany for the first time. TAFA Samoan Bakery, a new pop-up that opened in Berlin in early July , is also Germany’s first Samoan bakery. Through July 31, you can get 100% homemade and vegan Pani Popo here —light and fluffy coconut yeast buns that are among Samoa’s most famous desserts.

The pop-up runs from July 3 to July 31, 2026, and is open Fridays through Sundays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The address is Friedelstraße 29, 12047 Berlin, right in the heart of Neukölln. What makes TAFA special is that it showcases a culinary tradition that has been virtually absent from Berlin until now: Samoan baking culture. “Pani Popo” literally means “coconut bread” and consists of soft, fluffy rolls baked with coconut milk or coconut sauce. This makes them especially moist, slightly sweet, and intensely coconutty.
The bakery promotes the offering as “a taste of Samoa,” combining not only a dessert but also a piece of Pacific culinary culture. On Instagram, they also mention that visitors can pick up Pani Popo on-site along with a cold Cocodo drink .

The menu is small but very special: In addition to the classic OG Samoa for 5 euros, there are two creative variations, each for 5.50 euros. Tropic Gold combines the soft Pani Popo with sun-ripened mangoes, while Island Green is served with a matcha-lime sauce. All varieties are 100% vegan; wheat (or gluten) and soy are listed as allergens.
TAFA Samoan Bakery is an absolute must for July in Berlin—especially for foodies, dessert lovers, and anyone looking to discover new international specialties!
