Even if winter has not yet arrived in Berlin, at least in meteorological and calendar terms, a glance out of the window tells us otherwise: Temperatures below 5°C for days and now the first snow! It’s high time for exciting experiences to keep us happy in the dark and cold season.
A visit to the Reichstag
Not necessarily the first classic experience you think of in winter. And yet a visit here in the gray cold of Berlin makes a lot of sense. On the one hand, you are in the cozy warmth of the halls of the German parliament during your stay. On the other hand, the glass dome offers a unique view over Berlin and its Zoo which is especially nice in the snow! Another plus: As the wallet is often already groaning in the run-up to Christmas, it is happy to have an experience with free admission like this!
A visit to the Christmas Garden
Winter in Berlin means penetrating gray, against which only one remedy helps: Light therapy! The Christmas Garden in the Botanical Garden is an ideal place to go. This year, a total of over 30 illuminations will transform the circular route in the Botanical Garden into a magical, illuminated Christmas world, which is further enhanced by Burkhard Fincke’s soundtrack. At the entrance, glowing angels fly over your heads, fireflies dance through the treetops and neon lights blaze up the trees at Electric Wood. Light art and sound design merge seamlessly in the 60 spiral-shaped light rods of the rainbow world. Classics from previous years are also returning. Among them is the popular sea of lights, which dances to the music with 28,000 light-emitting diodes. All in all, a great destination for the whole family!
Strokes baby dinosaurs
Have you always wanted to get a little closer to the former rulers of our world? Then the Jurassic World exhibition is the right place for you! In various themed areas, you can see life-size dinosaurs that move and look absolutely realistic thanks to sophisticated animatronics. The exhibition has already toured various countries and will now also be in Berlin from December. Tickets are already available!
Finding Panem in Berlin again
The new Tribute to Panem film has recently been released and is once again grating on our nerves. A large part of the film was actually shot in Berlin, which is why you can visit many of the sets on a leisurely stroll! The gray winter weather sets the scene perfectly and gives you a real Capitol feeling. You can find all the filming locations here.
Experience Berlin’s hiking trails in a whole new light
We have just recently our favorite walking routes through Berlin and they take on a whole new charm in winter! In winter, all of Berlin’s hiking trails are not only even more idyllic but also a pleasant challenge. At the same time, exercise is supposed to prevent bad moods…
Escapism in the artificial sun
If the gray weather becomes too much for you despite all the tips, there’s only one thing to do: Escape! There are plenty of places in Berlin where you can do this, too teleport to the tropics.
A visit away from home
On the other hand, sometimes it is also worth taking some time out. How about a nice trip to Zurich, for example? Here you will also find the europe’s largest covered Christmas market and Pixel Zoo Ocean an exciting light show that takes you into a thrilling underwater landscape.
