A thrilling roller coaster ride is somehow a must among late-summer activities . But hurtling down a mountain? At first, that sounds more like winter fun in the snow. Think again—Berlin has a summer luge track where you ride down a natural slope in a bobsled on rails. The LEITNER Natural Bobsled Track is located in Kienbergpark, right next to the Gardens of the World. It’s officially considered Berlin’s first year-round natural bobsled track, making it a truly extraordinary experience for the capital.

You’ll race down the Kienberg at speeds of up to 40 km/h along a track just under 500 meters long . The whole thing works much like an Alpine Coaster. You sit in a bobsled that runs on a fixed track and whiz through numerous curves through the green and partly forested landscape of the Kienberg. After the actual descent, there’s even a panoramic loop where you complete two laps before the bobsled is automatically transported back to the top. Today’s bobsleds can be used by one person or two.
The story behind the LEITNER Natural Bobsled Track is also fascinating. It was created alongside Kienbergpark and the cable car as part of the 2017 International Garden Exhibition in Berlin. While many attractions at such major events disappear once the event ends, the natural bobsled track remained permanently and became an integral part of the park. In 2022, however, a major setback occurred. On the night of June 30, 2022, the operations building and a large portion of the bobsleds were destroyed in an arson attack. As a result, the track had to close for about two years. The operator, LEITNER, ultimately invested approximately 1.8 million euros in rebuilding the facility.
On July 11, 2024, the natural bobsled track was finally reopened . It wasn’t simply rebuilt, but also modernized at the same time. Since then, the track has featured, among other things, 22 new bobsleds, an additional loop, a modern ride assistance system, and a quieter return transport system. A photovoltaic system was also installed on the new station building, which is designed to generate a significant portion of the required electricity directly on-site.

From April through September 2026, the natural bobsled track is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., though the ticket office closes at 5 p.m. A single ride costs 6.50 euros for adults, while the reduced price is 5 euros. Those who want to take several runs right away can purchase three rides for 16 euros or 12 euros at the reduced rate . Tickets are available exclusively at the ticket office on the Kienberg.
The attraction is also great for families. Children between the ages of 3 and 5 ride for free, with a maximum of three free rides per day. Children between the ages of 3 and 7 may only ride when accompanied by an adult. Children aged 8 and older who are at least 1.35 meters tall may steer the bobsled on their own.
The natural bobsled track is particularly exciting because a visit can easily be combined with other attractions around the Kienberg. This makes the location ideal not just for a quick ride, but for a full-fledged outdoor excursion right in the heart of Berlin. For example, the Kienberg is home to the futuristic Wolkenhain observation deck. From here, you’ll have a sweeping view of the Gardens of the World, the Wuhle Valley, and Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Additionally, the cable car connects the Kienberg–Gardens of the World subway station with the Kienberg Plateau and the Gardens of the World.
