Eating vegan in Berlin has long since ceased to be about sacrifice. Instead, you’ll find a scene that could hardly be more creative: from sophisticated fine-dining concepts to modern interpretations of international classics, all the way to uncomplicated street food of the highest caliber. The capital’s plant-based cuisine has long been in a league of its own—and these very restaurants prove that flavor, aesthetics, and innovation come together perfectly here.

For sweet treats, head to Brammibal’s, with six (and a half) locations across Berlin. Here, you’ll find not only donuts but also… pancakes, Berliner, or Krapfen —depending on which region you’re from. What they all have in common is that they’re filled with rather unusual combinations, all of which are incredibly delicious and, of course, vegan.

If you’re looking for a truly well-known, international flagship for vegan or vegetarian cuisine in Berlin, there’s no getting around Cookies Cream. The Michelin-starred restaurant is one of Europe’s most renowned vegetarian fine-dining spots and attracts a style-conscious, international crowd —from the creative scene to the fashion world. Tucked away in a courtyard in Mitte, it embodies that quintessential Berlin vibe—a blend of understated elegance and exclusivity. Even though not all dishes are strictly vegan, the focus is clearly on plant-based cuisine—making the restaurant the perfect high-end contrast to more casual spots like Brammibal’s.
Frea
There are many vegan restaurants in Berlin, but none of them can top Frea when it comes to sustainability. The first plant-based zero-waste restaurant serves you first-class dishes that are prepared entirely by hand. The ingredients are not only seasonal but also sourced regionally. Here, they place great importance on knowing where products come from to guarantee the highest quality. All leftovers are eventually composted, and the resulting soil is sent back to the suppliers. This closes the loop of food production, utilization, and recycling.

Försters
Försters in Prenzlauer Berg rounds out Berlin’s vegan culinary scene with excellent German cuisine. Here you’ll find hearty dishes in all forms, from (soy)schnitzel with wild mushroom sauce and rosemary potatoes, to (vegan) goose with baked apple and dumplings, all the way to a speculoos tiramisu. It all sounds absolutely delicious and is definitely worth trying!

Gemello
In a way, you could call Gemello Berlin’s pizza nomad. In this one-man show, vegan Neapolitan-style pizzas are baked here, going far beyond the usual combinations of tomato sauce and mozzarella. You can usually find Gemello in the form of pop-ups scattered throughout Berlin (or occasionally beyond). But a permanent shop is set to open soon. Until then, we highly recommend chasing down the next pop-up. It’s worth it; we promise! You can check the website or Instagram to see where you’ll find Gemello next.
