Have you been hit by the winter blues and are slowly but surely getting sick of the cold? Especially in January, after the wonderful holidays, a little low often sets in – including wanderlust. But you don’t have to stay at home and wait for winter to pass. Sure, seasonal activities in Berlin and the surrounding area such as après-ski or ice skating are a distraction – but it doesn’t always have to be winter. Summer and the tropics are closer than you think. Without a plane and a long journey: Just 45 minutes from Berlin, the huge Tropical Islands amusement and water park invites you to its winter edition “Shining Tropics” – until February 15!

The tropical paradise is located in Krausnick-Groß Wasserburg, south of Berlin in Brandenburg. You can swim here all year round at a pleasant 26-28 degrees in large pools with a sandy beach. Lagoons, waterfalls and whirlpools provide a real tropical feeling. But Tropical Islands is more than just a huge leisure complex – it is home to the largest indoor rainforest in the world. In winter, it shows its particularly magical side: the winter edition “Luminous Tropics” transforms the resort into a magical wonderland of light and adventure. Artfully designed light figures and illuminated paths create a fascinating ambience in the midst of tropical flair. Highlights include a glow bar with illuminated drinks, samba shows with light elements, glow & chill-out vibes with tropical sounds and mystical light shows at the weekends. Themed stores invite you to pick up special souvenirs and numerous photo opportunities make it easy to capture this trip forever.
If you don’t want to drive back to Berlin after all these impressions, you can stay overnight directly on site. There is a choice of comfort and premium rooms in the Tropendome, the tropically designed OHANA lodges at the resort and – for camping fans – safari, premium and lodge tents in the Dome rainforest or pitches for motorhomes. There are also modern vacation homes in a natural setting around the park.
A visit to Tropical Islands provides the perfect dose of magic, atmosphere and vacation flair, especially in the cold season. And if you still haven’t had enough of the magic of lights, you can experience a spectacular drone light show accompanied by live music in the Gardens of the World back in Berlin – a glamorous end to a short winter break.
