Christmas and New Year’s Eve are already behind us – but winter is far from over. We were surprised with snow in almost all parts of Germany, including Berlin. And what goes better with icy temperatures and dancing snowflakes than an ice-skating tour? While there are already some great options in the city with its sparkling winter forest, it’s definitely worth heading out to discover some truly exceptional ice rinks. In addition to Brandenburg’s largest ice rink with a 160-metre-long skating path and a winter adventure world including an ice skating disco, we have a very special tip for you: The 650 m² real ice rink in the Metropolis Halle at Filmpark Babelsberg – located right next to Filmstudios Babelsberg, the oldest major film studios in the world.

In winter, the Metropolis Halle is transformed into a magical world of ice, where small events and musical entertainment also take place during the season. The best thing about this ice rink is that it is indoor and can therefore be used in any weather. Each session lasts around two hours, after which the ice is freshly prepared. Skate hire is available on site, as are walking aids for children and a sharpening service for your own blades. This experience is particularly suitable for families, children and teenagers, school classes, groups of friends or even for a date. The run is designed to be family-friendly and is also ideal for beginners. The winter season runs from December 6 to February 15.
The excursion can be ideally combined with a visit to Filmpark Babelsberg. Although no real filming for cinema or series productions takes place there, you can expect impressive film sets and backdrops, stunt and show formats, hands-on attractions and much more. Where the films are actually shot is at Studio Babelsberg. International productions have been made here for over 100 years – including Hollywood films, Netflix and series productions as well as major German cinema films. Among others, “V for Vendetta”, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay”,“The Grand Budapest Hotel” and numerous other works were shot here. German classics such as “Babylon Berlin” were also produced in Babelsberg.
