It’s snowy in Berlin – but are you dreaming of experiencing winter not in the city, but on a mountain in a rustic hut? There are more than enough authentic winter experiences around the capital: just 30 minutes from Berlin is Brandenburg’s largest real ice rink with a 160-metre ski slope. And if you want to stay in the middle of the city, there is even a sparkling winter forest for sledging. If that’s not enough for you and you’re more of a ski fan, then it’s worth looking a little further afield: around three hours from Berlin, the Wurmberg-Alm in Braunlage (Harz Mountains) has probably the most atmospheric après-ski atmosphere in northern Germany!

If you’re looking for an exuberant atmosphere after skiing, the Wurmberg-Alm is the place to be. The Alm is a popular meeting place directly after the descent or before taking the cable car back down to the valley. The rustic hut in the summit area, which you will find on the Alm, serves as both a restaurant and a snack bar and is ideal for classic hut food and drinks. The offer is complemented by a large sun terrace with panoramic views over the Harz Mountains. Whether you choose to sit comfortably indoors with a fireplace or on the spacious outdoor areas – you decide what you fancy. The gastronomy awaits you with authentic classic Harz dishes and regional specialties. In addition to the Alm, there are other places to go in the ski area. The umbrella bar at the Hexenritt valley station is particularly popular, which you can reach without having to go back up the mountain – no need to drive up here. There is also a classic après-ski vibe here, which is louder, livelier and more festive than up on the mountain. Après-ski hits, party charts and well-known classics provide the right atmosphere. Right next to it is the Hexenritt Alm, also in the Hexenritt area at the valley station and in the immediate vicinity of the umbrella bar. The atmosphere here is much quieter and cozier. You can expect hearty cuisine, plenty of warmth and a cozy hut ambience – perfect for warming up and relaxing.
