Before you make any plans further afield, make sure you visit the Christmas market in Europe’s largest zoo

The Christmas market at the zoo is a winter highlight for both children and adults. Since its opening in 2019, it has become one of the most popular Advent destinations for Berliners. The beauty of winter is impressively showcased here with around 30 extraordinary light installations, decorated paths, illuminated treetops, stars and water and light shows. The illuminated circular trail runs for around 2 km and also passes the historic Friedrichsfelde Palace. As you stroll through the extensive landscape zoo, you deliberately don’t get too close to the animal enclosures – for the sake of the animals. Of course, there is also an ice rink: Ice skates can be hired on site, and you can take a perfect break in between with warming drinks and Christmas treats.
The market is also an ideal activity for families, as there are regular family days at a special price. The next dates are December 2, December 9, December 15 and January 7. The Christmas market at the Tierpark can be experienced in Berlin up to and including January 10.

Please note that you have 20 minutes to enter the Tierpark from the time you buy your tickets. After that, you can of course stay as long as you like. An elaborately designed winter and light paradise awaits you, with fantastically staged installations that create a fairytale atmosphere. Nature, architecture and light art come together here in a particularly atmospheric way at Christmas time. You can easily get tickets via the official website.
