Almost two years after the closure of the legendary Watergate, lights will soon be shining again in the famous space at Falckensteinstraße 49. The renowned Parisian Culture Club Silencio is moving into the venue right on the Spree for a seven-month pop-up. The original Parisian venue was originally co-designed by director David Lynch in 2011.
The temporary Berlin project will officially open its doors on October 30, 2026, and run through May 2027. The reason for this temporary use is the 15th anniversary of the original Paris location. An exclusive pre-opening in September already drew big names like Richie Hawtin and Ben Klock to the DJ booth.
Completely gutted: Berghain architects redesign the space

For the redesign, the team brought in top-tier talent. The architecture is by Studio Karhard, which previously shaped the interior of Berghain. The old fixtures were completely gutted, revealing historic brickwork beneath the floor. In addition, the original logo on the facade was painted over in black.

The DJ booths made of concrete blocks, designed by artist Marc Leschelier, have also been repositioned. On the upper level, the booth now stands directly in front of the large window wall, while on the lower Waterfloor it has been moved to the center of the room.
A place for music, art, and weekly collectives

Co-founder Arnaud Frisch emphasizes that a club is a form that needs to be reinvented, not preserved. Accordingly, starting in late October , the program will feature rotating collectives every weekend as well as a fusion of electronic music and art installations.
The Berlin techno club Watergate closed its doors at the end of 2024 after 22 years. The reasons included sharply rising rent and operating costs, changes in nightlife habits, and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Faced with these financial hurdles, the operators no longer saw an economic future for the legendary club at the Oberbaum Bridge.
