The one that gives us warmth. The one that lifts our spirits. The one that makes us look forward to the festivities: It’s none other than hot mulled wine – an absolute must in winter for many. Its popularity is also reflected in the increased prices in Berlin: at the Christmas market at the Gedächtniskirche, it already costs up to €7.50 this year, a whole 15% more than in 2023! Well, that shouldn’t spoil our joy – we’ll just enjoy the winter drink somewhere else. It’s often cheaper outside the capital anyway. That’s why we can recommend you hop on the Potsdam ViP-Glühweinexpress just half an hour away from Berlin, where all proceeds are collected for a good cause.

A spicy scent of mulled wine wafts through Potsdam’s historic streetcars, sweetening every journey in winter. You can take part in these special express rides again this year on all four Sundays in Advent. The next dates are 7.12., 14.12. and 21.12.2025, when the historic “Gotha” and “Tatra” streetcars will give the city that extra festive Christmas touch between 1.00 and 6.30 pm. Mulled wine, non-alcoholic punch and delicious pastries will be served. All proceeds from the event will go to a good cause, namely the restoration and preservation of Potsdam’s vintage streetcars.
The Potsdam streetcars are lovingly refurbished museum vehicles built in 1967 and 1972. And while you are still enjoying the delicious mulled wine here, you will already reach the city’s next Advent highlight. On the way, you will find the “Potsdamer Weihnachtszauber” in Brandenburger Straße and the atmospheric Sinterklaas festival on 14.12. You don’t have to dig deep into your wallet for the ride: adults pay €2.00, children and ViP subscription customers only €1.00. Drinks are not included in the price. The mulled wine costs €4 or €5 with a shot, the non-alcoholic punch only €3. The deposit is €2 and is not included in the price. But as we can see here, the prices are significantly lower than in Berlin!
