Berlin is on the verge of a cultural upheaval that is redefining the boundaries between club culture and avant-garde art. The CONTRA Festival, which celebrates its premiere at the end of May 2026, is the result of a visionary collaboration between U.S. producer Skrillex and the team behind the legendary Berlin Atonal. In a city known for its strict separation of genres, CONTRA is venturing into an experiment: the deliberate friction of different music cultures at one of the most impressive venues in the world.
Monumental architecture meets futuristic lighting design

The choice of location could hardly be more symbolic. Kraftwerk Berlin on Köpenicker Straße serves as a monumental setting for this two-day spectacle. The former power plant, with its massive concrete pillars and cathedral-like ceiling height, will be completely transformed for the festival. The Paris-based design studio Matière Noire, known for its work in the high-fashion sector, is responsible for the design. The scenography uses complex light installations to transform the industrial coldness of the power plant into an immersive, almost surreal world. The goal is to create an intimate connection between the audience and the artists despite the enormous size of the hall, with the architecture itself becoming part of the performance.
A lineup without hierarchies: Over 70 acts at the CONTRA Festival

The musical heart of CONTRA is its radical diversity. Over 70 international artists will perform across the complex’s various levels. What sets it apart is the rejection of traditional headliner thinking; instead, synergy takes center stage. Alongside Skrillex himself, the lineup features names like Bladee, Ecco2K, Blawan, Juliana Huxtable, and Crystallmess. The mix ranges from experimental sound design and avant-garde pop to heavy bass rhythms and techno. It is this unusual combination of the artistic depth of the Atonal scene and the modern energy of global superstars that makes the CONTRA Festival a unique fixture of the Berlin summer and appeals to a new generation of music enthusiasts.
