Who doesn’t know it: Suddenly you find yourself unprepared and confronted with a Sunday or public holiday that has simply appeared spontaneously in the calendar. And right now, of course, there is a yawning emptiness in the fridge! As late-night shops are unfortunately now often forced to close on Sundays, this creates a problem that is being solved by some supermarkets in Berlin.
These supermarkets in Berlin also supply you on regular closing days!
A few supermarkets in Berlin are also open on Sundays and public holidays. These are usually located in the city’s larger train stations and can therefore be reached quite centrally. A (probably incomplete) list:
Edeka at Friedrichstraße station
You can stock up on everything you need here on Sundays from 8 am to 10 pm. On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day it is also open from 10 am to 10 pm.
Edeka at Lichtenberg station
Here, too, you can shop for all the essentials on Sundays from 8 am to 2 pm. On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day it is also open from 10 am to 10 pm.
Edeka at Südkreuz station
You will also find an Edeka branch in Südkreuz, which is also open on Sundays. You can shop here from 8 am to 10 pm.
Hit-Ullrich at Zoo station
The almost legendary supermarket in the underpass at Bahnhof Zoo is also open on Sundays and public holidays from 8 am to 10 pm. However, special opening hours apply at the turn of the year. Then you can shop on the 31st from 8 am to 6 pm and on New Year’s Day from 11 am to 10 pm.
Penny at Ostbahnhof
You can shop here daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., but on December 31 the market is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, opening hours may vary on public holidays!
Rewe at the main station
Rewe’s most stressful store in Berlin is located on the 1st floor. UG of the main station. Once you have made your way through the labyrinthine station , you can stock up on food here on weekdays from 6 am to 10 pm. On Sundays, however, it only starts at 8 am! On New Year’s Eve the market is open from 8 am to 8 pm and on New Year’s Day from 8 am to 10 pm.
Rewe at Ostbahnhof
The store at Ostbahnhof is a gem for all daytime thieves, as you can shop here from 6 a.m. to midnight every day! On New Year’s Eve, however, the store closes at 2 pm and on January 1st you can shop from 10 am to 6 pm.
Rewe at BER Airport
In the basement of Terminal 1, you can stock up 24/7 on everything your heart (or stomach) desires. However, the store closes at 4 p.m. on December 31 and will then be open again on New Year’s Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide you with the most important items.
Vitalia health food store at Friedrichstraße station
In addition to the aforementioned Edeka, the shopping station also has a health food store. This is open every day from 11 am to 8 pm.
Denns organic market at Gesundbrunnen, Ostkreuz and Zoo stations
Organic market fans can also rely on their organic market in three Berlin train stations on Sundays. These are open daily from 8 am to 10 pm. And that includes Christmas Eve, the Christmas holidays, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day! (However, the closing times may vary from case to case)
