Art is a big deal in the capital. New, impressive exhibitions are constantly opening – by local and international artists, ranging from cutting-edge digital art to classic, centuries-old works. There is something for every artistic taste. The same is true of music: hardly any other city in the world can compete with Berlin’s club culture. Between beats, intoxication, and adrenaline, creative impulses arise here that have an impact far beyond the city. Rosalía named one of her songs after Berghain, and Harry Styles is also said to have been inspired by the Berlin vibe for his latest album. This special spirit no longer attracts only musicians. The art scene is also influenced by it: Pierre Huyghe, one of the most important contemporary artists, is now showing his first major solo exhibition , “Liminals,” in the hall at Berghain.

The large-scale immersive exhibition opened to visitors yesterday, January 23, and will run until March 8, 2026. “Liminals” is a commissioned work developed specifically for the Halle am Berghain and marks Pierre Huyghe’s first institutional solo exhibition in Berlin. As is typical of his work, Huyghe combines film, light, sound, vibration, and space to create a multi-layered installation. At its center is a film that follows a faceless, human-like figure moving through different states—between reality and consciousness, between presence and uncertainty. Huyghe himself describes the work as a “modern myth,” situated beyond time and space, without clear boundaries between inside and outside, between living and inanimate matter. In keeping with the title, the exhibition explores a liminal, or suspended, threshold state in which several states exist simultaneously—comparable to a quantum system before measurement.

“Liminals” is open Friday through Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 p. m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission is €10, reduced €8.
