There is no shortage of attractions for tourists in Berlin. After all, the capital is home to many historic buildings, a multifaceted world of art and culture and some of the most interesting nightlife in Europe!
While we usually devote our attention to these most beautiful and interesting places in Berlin, today we are focusing on the tourist attraction that always falls out of favor in reviews: the Berlin TV Tower.
Together with the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag dome, the giant, which opened in 1969, is by far the most striking landmark on the capital’s skyline and is one of the most internationally recognized buildings in Berlin. No wonder: its typical silhouette towers above all other buildings in the city (and in the whole of Germany) and the number of visitors is equally high. However, they are often disappointed by their trip over the rooftops of the city, because unfortunately the TV tower has some unpleasant surprises in store.
Pride comes before a fall
The waiting time in front of the TV tower is already a problem for many visitors. Depending on the season and day of the week, this can be more than an hour. Anyone who braves this hurdle and the Berlin weather is already facing the next problem: An entrance fee of a hefty €25. In return, you can take the elevator up to the iconic dome of the TV tower and, once at the top, sit on one of the most spectacular views in Germany look forward to.
In good weather, you can see a full 80 kilometers into the distance from the viewing platform and thus also far into the Berlin environs peek. Provided you manage to get a place! Because: as one of the most popular attractions, it is often extremely crowded here, which can spoil the view enormously. The restaurant with a panoramic view in the rotating dome does not score particularly well with many visitors either. Many complain about long waiting times, unfriendly staff and only average quality of food and drinks considering the high entrance fee.
Complaining at a high level
Despite many negative comments, the TV tower still scores pretty well overall with a Google Maps rating of 4.4. If you are not put off by the rather high entrance fee and a dip in the crowd, you can apparently spend a nice day in the ivory tower here after all.
An alternative for all others is the Berlin radio tower to. Although it can only claim to be a third of the height of the TV tower, it is far less crowded and still offers a wonderful view of Berlin and the surrounding area.
