Berlin is a movie city in every sense of the word. Just look at its long film history from Ufa to Babelsberg, international stars like Marlene Dietrich and Daniel Brühl, one of the world’s most important film festivals, and the many extraordinary movie theaters.
Even in everyday life, you often find yourself thinking: “Berlin is just like a movie.” Either because in Kreuzberg you’re surrounded by a diverse mix of people you can imagine; or because you’ve stumbled upon a spot worthy of a movie set and think to yourself: “Haven’t you seen this somewhere before?”
Tarantino-style suspense at Clärchens Ballhaus

This former rear building not only feels like something out of a movie— Quentin Tarantino recognized the uniqueness of this place and transformed it into a piece of film history in “Inglourious Basterds”! In this Berlin classic, time has literally stood still, because in the Hall of Mirrors, everything looks just as it did a hundred years ago! Guided tours are even offered, allowing you to experience true Berlin cultural history.
Bonus tip for all Tarantino fans: At the original Café Einstein on Kurfürstenstraße, Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) ate the most nerve-wracking strudel in film history with Shosanna (Mélanie Laurent).

During the Cold War, spies met at this bridge. Because, tucked away in southern Berlin, this is the perfect spot for a secret exchange in the fog. So throw on your trench coat and pull your hat down low over your face. Just take the S-Bahn from Bahnhof Zoo to Wannsee or Potsdam and hop on the next bus—and you’ll be at this historic spot where Steven Spielberg filmed his spy thriller “Bridge of Spies.”
Film noir experience at the Jazz Room

But hurry— tickets for the Jazz Room are in high demand.
A Wim Wenders moment at Anhalter Bahnhof

Here you’ll find the filming location for scenes from Wim Wenders’ unforgettable film “Wings of Desire,” in which an angel walks through divided Berlin, tormented by the desire to become human himself. Particularly memorable is the backdrop of the ruins of Anhalter Bahnhof in front of the Tempodrom.
As one of the few remaining ruins in Berlin, the destroyed building makes a powerful impression on its visitors. If you look at the remains compared to pictures of its former size, you’ll see that the imposing height of the entrance was only a fraction of the size of this giant structure back then ! From the old Anhalter Bahnhof, it’s just a few steps to our next stop on the list.
James Bond action at Checkpoint Charlie

Once upon a time, world powers faced off here ; today , a small strip of history remains in the middle of Friedrichstraße. None other than James Bond himself chased villains here, played back then by Roger Moore in the movie “Octopussy.” During the week, you can take great photos here! But you’d better plan other things as well. Aside from taking photos, there isn’t much to do at Checkpoint Charlie.
Hunger Games adventure on Museum Island
Fans of The Hunger Games series , in particular, will get their money’s worth in Berlin. Filming locations from the movie series can be found all over the city. Our favorites: the impressive facade of the Altes Museum and the Kolonnadenhof, both on Museum Island. Cool photos are guaranteed here, and there’s plenty to discover in the surrounding area!
Thrilling courtroom drama at the Colosseum
