Whether at a kids’ café, where the little ones play while you relax and enjoy your coffee, or at one of the many diverse playgrounds: there’s certainly no shortage of family outings here. There’s one you definitely shouldn’t miss: The Europaspielplatz is located in Park am Buschkrug in Berlin-Britz and is known as Berlin’s largest playground.
What makes it special isn’t just the playground’s size—around 79,000 square meters—but also its concept. The Europaspielplatz is designed as a mini-journey through Europe and divided into different themed worlds. Among the best-known areas are the Alps with a water playground, the Siebengebirge with its eye-catching Dracula slide, and a Berlin area featuring a play structure modeled after the TV Tower. There are seven themed areas in total, so that children can, in a sense, discover different regions of Europe while they play.
The offerings cater to different age groups and range from swings, slides, and sandboxes to climbing and balancing structures, as well as water and physical activity features. The varying levels of difficulty ensure that not only younger children have a great time, but older kids up to about 15 years old can also find suitable challenges.
Right next to the Europaspielplatz, another highlight awaits: the Motorikpark, which opened in 2011 and is considered Germany’s largest contiguous motor skills park. There, children and adults can try their hand at hanging courses, suspension bridges, balance beams, climbing structures, and various skill stations. Admission is free, making Buschkrugpark an exciting destination, especially for families with children of different ages.
There’s also a remarkable project behind the facility. Today’s Europe-themed playground opened on May 5, 2015, after about two years of construction . Around two million euros went into its design, while the comprehensive renovation of the entire park cost about 3.2 million euros.
For a longer stay, there’s also the Café am Buschkrug, which offers food and drinks as well as public restrooms. According to Berlin.de, this area is accessible. The park is easily reachable by public transportation: the Blaschkoallee U-Bahn station on Line U7 is nearby. Both the playground and the motor skills park can be used free of charge.
