Enough with smartphones, TVs, and other screens— kids should play, and they should do it outside. When’s a better time for that than in the summer? Berlin offers plenty of great playgrounds, but there’s also a lot to discover around the capital—from the free water playground in the Spreewald to the Strawberry Adventure World. But which playgrounds are truly among the best in the city? There’s one we can definitely recommend, since even The New York Times mentioned it back in 2016 : the Räuberspielplatz with its Enchanted Forest in Berlin-Kladow. The sprawling complex is nestled on a wooded hillside and stretches across several levels all the way down to the Havel River.
The playground is particularly well-known for its imaginative robber and pirate theme. Children can climb aboard a large pirate ship, balance across suspension bridges, test their agility on ropes and climbing structures , or explore the winding Enchanted Forest. The playground also features a tube slide, a zip line, trampolines, various swings, balance beams, wooden sculptures, and numerous other play options that invite children to explore freely.
In the spring of 2024, the playground underwent a comprehensive renovation. Among other things, it was equipped with a new play ship and additional climbing and play elements, while the facility’s popular adventurous character was preserved.
A special highlight is its extraordinary location. The playground runs from Kladower Damm down the hillside to the Havel River. At the bottom is the landing stage for the BVG F10 ferry, which connects Kladow with Wannsee and is considered one of Berlin’s most beautiful ferry routes. Many families therefore combine a visit to the playground with a short ferry ride across the Havel. The X34 bus also stops directly above the playground, making the facility easily accessible even without a car.
The Räuberspielplatz has been known far beyond Berlin for many years. In 2016, it was even recommended by The New York Times as a special outing tip for families. The article particularly highlighted its spectacular location on the slope overlooking the Havel River—a feature that continues to make the playground unique to this day.
The playground is particularly well-suited for preschool and elementary school-aged children who love to climb, slide, and go on adventures. Thanks to the size of the grounds and the many different play areas, families often spend several hours here.
