Slowly but surely, spring is coming to Berlin. And one of the best things to do in sunny weather is to take a trip to the surrounding area. Are you familiar with the most beautiful villages in Brandenburg? These include the tranquil town of Zehdenick with its approximately 13,000 inhabitants. This town is a historic Havel town in northern Brandenburg, about 60 kilometers north of Berlin. It is particularly known for its industrial past as once the most important brick-making region in Europe.
The “brick heritage”: Mildenberg Brickworks Park

The famous Mildenberg Brickworks Park is definitely the region’s tourist highlight. Around 1900, billions of bricks were produced here for the construction boom in Berlin. Without this brickworks, Berlin would probably look very different today. Today, you will find a huge interactive industrial museum there – you can find more information about this special adventure park here.
The Zehdenicker Tonstiche clay pits are also exciting : the former clay pits are now an idyllic lake landscape that invites you to swim and go boating. There are over 50 lakes around the village. The town is a paradise for boaters and canoeists and is one of the water hotspots around Berlin. You can charter boats here and explore the Upper Havel Waterway.
In Zehdenick, everything revolves around water anyway . As the village was an important hub for shipping, the Schifferuseum (boat museum) – housed in a historic barge – shows the history of shipping on the Havel.
Sights in and around the town center

The former Cistercian convent Zehdenick Monastery, dating from 1250, is a place of tranquility. The monastery barn and the glassmaker’s house are particularly worth seeing . On the website, you will find an overview of the current events at the creative venues. The Zehdenick drawbridge is also worth seeing. It is a technical monument in the middle of the town that connects the arms of the Havel River and is regularly raised for ships.
Zehdenick is also worth a visit as a starting point for nature tours. The picturesque village is not only located on barefoot trails and adventure hikes, but also directly on the Berlin-Copenhagen long-distance cycle route. You don’t have to go that far, but the stages along the Voss Canal and the Havel River are considered particularly relaxing and close to nature.
And by the way: this village is also well known in political circles. Just around the corner is the famous Meseberg Castle, where Obama has been a guest. This is where the world meets – in the middle of nature.
