What’s going on in the city right now? From Maurizio Cattelan’s first major solo exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie to a free museum dedicated to Berlin’s oldest schnapps distillery —there’s still plenty of new things to discover. There’s also a lot happening at Leipziger Platz: According to its owner, HGHI, the Mall of Berlin is in the final phase of a comprehensive repositioning process.

As part of this, existing spaces are being reconfigured, larger areas are being created for new brands, and the traditional shopping experience is increasingly being combined with leisure and entertainment offerings. A total of more than 40 million euros is being invested in the renovation and repositioning of the mall. Among other things, this is intended to reduce vacancies and reestablish the Mall of Berlin at Leipziger Platz more firmly as a central shopping and leisure destination.
One of the first major new openings is just around the corner. New Yorker will open a pop-up store at the Mall of Berlin on September 17, 2026. The temporary store will cover approximately 2,300 square meters and span the ground floor as well as the first and second floors. Initially, the former Wormland space will be used for this purpose. However, the pop-up store is only a temporary solution. At the same time, preparations are already underway for a permanent New Yorker store, which is scheduled to open in the spring or summer of 2027 and, at more than 3,000 square meters, will be significantly larger.
There are also plenty of plans for the grand opening. From September 17 to 19, visitors can look forward to a program of events featuring a live DJ, a wheel of fortune, and discounts of up to 15 euros. A humanoid robot from New York is also set to be unveiled on opening day. The first 100 visitors will each receive a gift certificate worth five euros.

There’s also a lot happening in the mall’s lower level. There, theexisting Edeka isbeing replaced by a new REWE supermarket . According to center manager Harald Huth, this new store is set to be nearly twice as large as the previous Edeka. The opening is currently scheduled for September 30, 2026 . The new REWE is located on the first lower level and, in addition to the traditional supermarket offerings, will also include a bakery and a café.
At the same time, the entire basement level is being restructured. Action is set to move into a space of approximately 1,000 square meters, while dm is expanding its existing space. To make room for this, several smaller retail spaces have been consolidated. The basement is expected to be fully leased again by next spring at the latest.
One of the most unusual new features is an interactive Berlin museum, which is set to be built on the top floor of the eastern half of the mall, facing Wilhelmstraße. According to the report, the corresponding lease agreement has already been signed. However, the opening will not take place as early as September, as construction is expected to continue into 2027.
