Feel like going on an adventurous outing outside Berlin again? Then you’ll find not only Germany’s top-rated zoo, but also a park where you can really let off some steam. Volkspark Potsdam is a versatile destination for the whole family, combining diverse playgrounds, numerous sports facilities, and plenty of nature.
Especially in the summer, the large water playground is one of the park’s highlights. Its water basin covers an area of about 900 square meters and features wooden rafts, a fine sandy beach, and water-spouting fish. A sunbathing lawn, a small lighthouse, and a fisherman’s hut for playing and exploring round out the area. Currently, however, the large water basin is closed until further notice due to technical problems with the water treatment system. A date for its reopening has not yet been announced.
But even away from the water, there’s plenty to discover in Volkspark. Among the most striking attractions is a large slide tower, flanked by a climbing structure with eight routes of varying difficulty levels . There’s also a bouldering wall, four trampolines in the forest park, and the Nedlitzer Holz playground with a large sandbox for younger children.
The park also offers plenty of activities for older children and teens. The skate park was completely redesigned in 2026 and opened in April. It features mini-ramps, half-pipes, quarter-pipes, and other elements for skating. You can also get active on the 15-hole disc golf course in the northern part of the park. No registration is required. If you don’t have your own disc, you can borrow one at the information pavilion at the main entrance.
The low admission price is particularly noteworthy. During the summer season, from March 1 to November 30, a day pass costs just 1.50 euros. From December 1 through the end of February, admission is just 0.50 euros. Admission is free for people under 18, as well as for high school students and college students of legal age. A family with two adults and two minor children thus pays just three euros for a full day of admission.
The fenced-in area of Volkspark Potsdam is generally open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., though opening hours may vary during events. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash in the park. Barbecues are not permitted.
