Kids can really let off steam all over Berlin—whether at the free water playground in the Spreewald or at the Orankesee beach with its 50-meter-long water slide. But where can the little ones really burn off some energy right in the city? For one thing, there’s the world’s largest trampoline park, which recently opened in Berlin. But now there’s another highlight to add to the list: the new forest playground in Volkspark Mariendorf. It opened on July 9, 2026, and is part of the comprehensive modernization of the historic Volkspark.
Instead of colorful plastic playground equipment, you’ll find mainly wood, natural materials, and an environment that blends harmoniously with the mature trees and offers children plenty of space for creative play. At the playground, children can climb, balance, and explore nature through play . This not only promotes motor skills and coordination but also fosters imagination and free play. Thanks to its various play areas, the forest playground is suitable for both toddlers and older children. The offerings are complemented by ping-pong tables, chess sets, and cozy seating areas under pergolas, so that parents and grandparents can also relax and enjoy their time here.
The forest playground is located at the Wegedreieck at the entrance to Rixdorfer Straße in Volkspark Mariendorf. The new location was deliberately chosen to make the playground more accessible and less barrier-prone than the previous location south of the stadium.
The playground is part of an extensive revitalization of the entire Volkspark. As part of the renovation, a new dog park, a fitness area, a restored rose garden, a new perennial garden, an ecologically enhanced marsh garden, and renaturalized ponds with new habitats for amphibians are being created. In addition, new paths and ramps ensure improved accessibility. A total of around 2.5 million euros is being invested in the project.
A visit is especially worthwhile for families with children of all ages, for parents who prefer nature-oriented playgrounds, and for anyone who wants to combine the outing with a walk or picnic in the Volkspark. Especially on warm summer days, the many old trees provide pleasant shade and make your visit particularly enjoyable.
