The long winter is finally behind us and spring is now clearly in the air. With the first warm rays of sunshine, better moods and a dose of vitamin D are also returning. But what could make this spring feeling even more perfect than good weather? When fresh leaves sprout on the trees again and the cherry blossoms unfold in all their glory, the city becomes even more beautiful. Nature becomes more colorful, flowers begin to bloom everywhere and bring new color to the landscape. This is also true of tulips, which are not only known in the Netherlands for their huge fields of colorful stripes made up of millions of flowers, but also adorn Berlin this weekend.

On Saturday, March 14, 2026, Breitscheidplatz in Berlin-Charlottenburg will be transformed into a sea of flowers for one day. On “Tulip Day,” a temporary tulip garden with around 50,000 colorful tulips will be set up, from which visitors can pick flowers free of charge. The event will take place right next to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and will bring a piece of Dutch spring to Berlin’s City West for a few hours.
Admission to the event is free. The tulip garden opens at around 11 a.m., and the actual picking of flowers usually begins at around 12 noon. Visitors can then walk through the rows and cut their own tulips. To ensure that as many people as possible can take part in the event, each person is usually allowed to take up to ten tulips – as long as they are available.

Tulip Day originated in the Netherlands, where a large tulip picking garden is set up every year in Amsterdam. The Netherlands is now considered the world’s largest tulip producer, exporting billions of cut tulips annually. In Berlin, too, Tulip Day is increasingly becoming a popular spring event. Thousands of visitors come to Breitscheidplatz every year to stroll through the colorful tulip field, take photos, and pick up a small bouquet for free. As it is often very busy, it is worth arriving early if you want to be sure of picking tulips.
