The Rüdersdorf limestone quarry is a setting straight out of an alien planet
The absolute highlight of the park is the gigantic open-pit mine. When you stand at the edge of the active limestone quarry, you’ll look out over a rugged, dusty crater landscape reminiscent of distant planets.
In addition to the active mining area, there are also historic industrial structures to discover on the vast grounds. Gigantic old kilns, abandoned smokestacks, and weathered ruins exude a fantastic “lost place” charm.

You can wander through the impressive shaft kiln facilities and get a sense of how people toiled here under the most extreme conditions. Nature is slowly reclaiming the old brick buildings, giving the entire site a mystical vibe.
Even major international films have been shot here. For example, the abandoned quarry was transformed into District 8 in *The Hunger Games*, served as a refugee camp in*Homelander*, and in the Netflix series *Dark*, it becomes a destroyed nuclear power plant.

How to get there:
🚗 By car: Take the B1/B5 or the A10 (Berliner Ring), exit at Rüdersdorf, and you’ll be there in about 45 minutes from Berlin.
🚇 By public transit: Take the S3 to Friedrichshagen. From there, transfer to tram 88, which will take you almost directly to the park’s gates (Rüdersdorf stop, Heinitzstraße).
