Has the famous Sanssouci Palace with its Sicilian-inspired garden already won you over? Then there are other places in Brandenburg where similar architecture and landscape combine perfectly for a day trip. Another impressive Baroque palace lies just over an hour from the center of Berlin and looks back on some 360 years of history. But one that comes particularly close to Sanssouci is none other than its “little sister” and, at the same time, its model: Rheinsberg Palace. Unlike in Potsdam, the grounds here remain significantly quieter and less staged to this day. Directly on the shore lies Lake Grienerick, which captures the palace’s impressive backdrop in a unique way through its reflection.

Lake Grienerick forms the center of this scenery and shapes the place more than any architecture. Its calm, often mirror-smooth water creates exceptionally clear reflections and opens up wide vistas—a rarity in Brandenburg. Unlike many of the more heavily frequented swimming lakes around Berlin, it feels unhurried and virtually untouched, making it particularly attractive for peaceful outings, first-time boat trips, or relaxed swimming. Especially in the early morning hours or in the evening, an almost silent, picturesque atmosphere emerges here.
It is only in harmony with the lake that Rheinsberg Palace reveals its full impact. The Baroque structure was deliberately placed directly on the shore so that architecture and landscape merge into one another. Viewed from the water, the nearly perfect reflection creates the impression that the palace is floating in the lake—a perspective that cannot be experienced from land.

Lake Grienerick is not just a visual backdrop, but an active space for experiences. Whether swimming, stand-up paddling, or on a boat tour, the view of the palace and the surrounding landscape opens up time and again. Thanks to the gentle current and sheltered location, the lake is particularly well-suited for relaxing activities on the water. At the same time, the open shoreline areas and the vastness of the lake convey a sense of freedom that goes far beyond that of a classic swimming lake.
