A touch of Manhattan is sweeping through Mitte. Anyone who has scrolled through international social media feeds in recent weeks could hardly miss the square rice bites on a stick . Now the street food trend has finally crossed the Atlantic and is enriching the city’s Asian culinary scene.
The New York food craze arrives on the Spree
The Popup Sushi concept is bringing so-called “stick sushi” to our neighborhoods for the first time. Instead of classic maki or nigiri, the new spot serves this Asian classic in a handy format perfect for on-the-go. The menu focuses on the essentials and currently offers exactly 6 different sushi creations. For this compact snack, customers pay between €11.50 and €14.50. The format is specifically designed for a quick lunch break or as a simple bite in the evening.

Pairing drinks and the address in Mitte
The savory rice sticks come with a complementary drink pairing. To accompany the meal, the Yuzu Icy Lemonade is offered on-site, designed to round out the flavor of the rolls. If you’d like to try the new spot for yourself, head to Oranienburger Straße 84 at Hackescher Markt . The shop is within walking distance of Hackescher Markt. The team is sharing impressions and updates about the launch on the @popupsushi_berlin channel. To avoid the endless lines that this concept originally caused in the U.S., an early visit is recommended.
The operators are no strangers to the scene ; they come from Berlin’s sushi scene and have already launched several culinary projects. The idea for the pop-up came about after a trip to the U.S. The result is a hybrid of classic sushi and modern street food—a concept that deliberately straddles the line between snack-style dining and fine-casual cuisine.
The pop-up store is open daily from around 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. However, it’s worth arriving as early as possible, as the crowds are large and it can fill up quickly.
