The Plötzensee Beach is located on the western shore of Plötzensee in Berlin’s Wedding district, at Nordufer 26, 13351 Berlin. Despite its central location, you’ll find a real vacation vibe here, with a sandy beach, a large sunbathing lawn, and plenty of recreational activities right on the water.
Swimming at Plötzensee has a tradition dating back more than 100 years . Today, the beach is privately operated and combines a classic swimming lake with a sandy beach, large sunbathing lawns, sports facilities, and dining options. The size of the facility is particularly impressive. The beach features approximately 15,000 square meters of sandy beach and about 40,000 square meters of sunbathing lawns. According to the operator, the entire site covers approximately 60,000 square meters. This means that right in the heart of Berlin lies a surprisingly large beach and recreational area where you can easily spend an entire summer day.
The facilities go far beyond those of a simple swimming lake. Amenities include water slides, table tennis tables, beach volleyball courts, and opportunities to play basketball and soccer. Beach chairs and umbrellas can also be rented on site.
There are also various activities for families. Children can let off steam on a playground and in a bouncy castle. Floatation devices and water toys may be brought along. During regular opening hours, lifeguards also ensure the safety of swimmers. In addition, special recreational activities such as SUP polo, raft building, Arrow Tag, and various team challenges can be organized on the grounds. Sports have long played a role at Plötzensee, as sporting events have been held on the grounds for more than 100 years.
The beach also features a separate nudist area. The nudist area is physically separated from the rest of the beach, so visitors can decide for themselves which area they’d like to use. Thanks to the size of the entire grounds, there’s still plenty of space for the traditional beach and sunbathing areas.
In terms of dining, the beach now offers much more than just a classic outdoor pool snack bar. The grounds feature, among other things, a SeeCafé, a pizzeria, and other food and lounge options. Pizzeria Monella serves Neapolitan pizza from a stone oven. It’s usually open daily starting at 1 p.m., with the last order accepted around 9:30 p.m. The SeeCafé opens as early as 10 a.m. and offers, among other things, burgers, fries, coffee, cake, pastries, bowls, and smoothies. Weather permitting, a food truck rounds out the offerings with items such as hot dogs, nachos, tacos, and fries.
