Visits to castles don’t always have to be quiet strolls through historic rooms and meticulously landscaped gardens; sometimes there’s a lot more going on. By that we mean grand jousting tournaments, medieval markets, and an all-around atmosphere that feels like a journey to a completely different era. And the largest of these festivals in the Berlin area is taking place right in your neighborhood this week. The Baroque Oranienburg Palace Park will be transformed into a vast medieval wonderland over Pentecost, from May 23 to 26.
The so-called Pfingst-Spectaculum is one of the most famous medieval festivals in the Berlin area and attracts thousands of visitors every year. The sprawling castle park is completely transformed during the festival. Amid historic backdrops , large medieval market stalls, knight camps, and demonstrations of traditional craftsmanship spring up. In addition, jugglers, stilt walkers, and musicians bring the entire park to life. Open fires blaze everywhere, while historic taverns offer mead and rustic specialties. Folk and medieval bands also perform on several stages, transforming the entire grounds into an almost cinematic atmosphere.
The spectacular evening fire shows are particularly popular. Acrobats and performers showcase their skills with flames, pyrotechnics, and music, creating an impressive atmosphere against the backdrop of the baroque castle. It is the setting, above all, that makes the event so special. Amid ancient trees, water features, and magnificent gardens, a unique blend of fairy-tale world, medieval market, and fantasy festival comes to life. Many visitors even show up in historical garb or elaborately designed costumes, making the entire grounds feel almost like another era.

The castle itself is also one of the most significant Baroque castles in Brandenburg. It was originally built in the 17th century and is closely associated withthe Dutch Princess Louise Henriette of Orange, after whom the town was later named. The Baroque gardens directly on the Havel River lend the entire town a particularly elegant atmosphere.
The Pfingst-Spectaculum is so popular because it combines several things at once: an easy day trip from Berlin, historic castle romance, a festival atmosphere, and medieval fantasy vibes. Thanks to its size and the lush park grounds, the festival has a much more atmospheric feel than many smaller medieval markets in city centers.
