The longest fireworks display in Europe in 2025 is planned for New Year’s Eve in Berlin – “We’ve already secured this title,” emphasizes Armin Mostoffi Kamari, co-organizer of the alternative New Year’s Eve event at the Brandenburg Gate. The alternative New Year’s Eve party was registered back in the summer, after it was announced that the ZDF New Year’s Eve show would take place in Hamburg for the first time instead of Berlin as usual. It is no ordinary party, but a demonstration under the motto “Let’s save New Year’s Eve”, organized by the Warriors association. The association has already organized a solidarity concert for Ukraine and runs the House of Democracy and Human Rights in Berlin.
The reason for canceling the regular party at the Brandenburg Gate is the financial problems of the Berlin Senate, which has to save 130 million euros in the cultural sector. However, Kamari argues that Berlin lives from tourism – and that this cannot exist without culture. Artist Kani Alavi from the East Side Gallery and Fabian Drescher, President of Hertha BSC, will appear on stage on New Year’s Eve to talk about cohesion and social responsibility. You can also expect a program of pop, classical and electro music. There will also be a Ferris wheel and four large LED screens on the two-kilometer-long mile between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column.

The organizers have also already taken care of the issue of safety for visitors. Kamari reports that the third coordination meeting with the police has already taken place. New Year’s Eve means a state of emergency every year – but the advantage is that all emergency services are on duty that night anyway. However, an ambulance service and security staff also have to be hired, which is estimated to cost around 50,000 to 70,000 euros. This money is to be raised via an appeal for donations on the website https://weareberlin.eu/
website.
Mostoffi is confident that the alternative cultural alliance’s project will succeed. 16 techno collectives are to play on the Straße des 17. Juni from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. that night – the plan: to create the biggest dance floor in the world. Eight collectives have already confirmed their participation, reports Kamari, who himself is considered a pioneer of the techno scene in Berlin. The aim of the alternative New Year’s Eve party 2025 is to create a new “sense of togetherness” and “to create something new with heart and soul that touches people.”
Kamari and his fellow campaigners have given the Berlin fireworks display the name “The Wild Rose”. At midnight, it will symbolically blossom 180 meters above the Victory Column with the help of pyrotechnics. The name is no coincidence – the New Year’s Eve fireworks are intended to commemorate a special “Berlin plant”: the singer Hildegard Knef. “Of course, her song ‘Für mich soll’s rote Rosen regnen’ will also be played.”
