Exercising is always good for you, and when you can enjoy fresh air while doing it, working out is even more fun. However, free places where you can combine different exercises and workout options aren’t available everywhere. Starting this summer, there’s a new highlight very close to Berlin that’s also perfect for cooler fall days: In Babelsberg, the municipal playground on Obere Donarstraße has been expanded to include a new calisthenics area . Here, fitness enthusiasts can now train outdoors and try out various bodyweight exercises.

The new facility is thus part of the existing playground and offers an additional opportunity to train outdoors using one’s own body weight. The calisthenics facility was created at the request of local residents. It was financed, among other sources, by funds from the “ideas budget” of the state capital, Potsdam. According to the city’s Instagram post, a total of around 90,000 euros was invested in the project.
The project aligns with Potsdam’s “Ideas Budget” initiative, through which the city supports projects proposed by residents that improve the immediate living environment in the city’s neighborhoods . A total of 120,000 euros was made available for various cultural, athletic, and social projects in 2026.

Calisthenics primarily involves training using one’s own body weight. Typical exercises include pull-ups, dips, push-ups, and various holding and strength exercises. The facilities designed for this purpose usually consist of various bars and structures on which the exercises can be performed.
The new calisthenics facility is located at the municipal playground on Obere Donarstraße in Babelsberg, Potsdam. This means that, in addition to the existing playground, there is now a new option for outdoor training.
