Even though the weather is still a bit unpredictable, the swimming season in Berlin is just around the corner. Whether you’d like to visit one of the water parks around the capital or prefer to relax at one of the many lakes —the choices are plentiful. And Berlin has plenty of new things to offer again this summer. For example, the new beach area “La Plage” has opened at Halensee . With its white-and-red umbrellas, sandy beach, brasserie , and bistro , the spot exudes the flair of the Côte d’Azur—right in the heart of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf.

What at first glance looks like a luxurious beach club on the French Riviera is actually located right in the heart of Berlin. With Das Halensee and its beach area La Plage, one of the city’s most exciting new summer openings has been created at Halensee. The project has revitalized a historic site right on the water.
Halensee is a new leisure and dining concept on the shores of Halensee in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. After several changes in management and difficult years, the site was extensively redesigned and reopened as a combination of a beach resort, restaurant, beer garden, and event venue. The goal of the project is to make Halensee a popular summer destination once again for Berliners and visitors to the city.
The heart of the complex is La Plage, the new beach area right on the water. Visitors can expect fine sand, lounge chairs, umbrellas, and several piers with views of the lake. The white sandy areas and retro-inspired umbrellas, in particular, create an atmosphere more reminiscent of the South of France than Berlin.

Yet the site looks back on a surprisingly long history. Many Berliners don’t know that the famous Luna Park was once located here. Opened in 1909 , the amusement park was considered the largest of its kind in Europe at the time and drew visitors from across the German Empire to Halensee. After the Luna-Park closed, the site gradually evolved into a beach resort over the decades. Today’s concept deliberately builds on this recreational tradition and reinterprets it for a new generation.
In addition to the beach, the site now features numerous other areas. These include a brasserie serving French-inspired cuisine right on the water, a beer garden with a lake view, event spaces on pontoons, sunbathing lawns, and regular sundowner and DJ events during the summer season. This makes the spot ideal for both relaxed afternoons by the water and summer evenings with food, drinks, and music.
