Berlin in winter: It’s not all gray skies and bad moods. On the contrary, the cold season has a lot to offer in the capital. The Christmas markets are waiting for your visit and sporting activities are also popular. This includes ice skating! There are several places in Berlin where you can try out winter sports at your leisure, like in this glowing winter wonderland. One of our other favorites: The ice rink at Neptunbrunnen.
There are only a few places where you can skate in such a historic location. The rink offers an unmistakable view of the famous Berlin TV tower and the Neptune Fountain.
Bring your skates and skate for free

The ice rink at the Neptune Fountain is located directly in front of the Rotes Rathaus on the west side of Alexanderplatz. Here you can do your pirouettes on 600 square meters of ice or skate relaxed laps to the sound of Christmas music and disco. Practice sessions are offered for beginners, while an ice disco awaits younger visitors.
And best of all: you can even skate here for free! Skating on the ice rink at Neptunbrunnen is free if you bring your own skates. For everyone else, there is also a rental service where you can pick up your equipment for a fee of 5 euros.
The ice rink is only open during the Berlin Christmas season and runs from November 24 to December 30. You can do your laps here every day from 12:00 to 22:00 (at weekends from 11:00).
Other attractions around the Red Town Hall

Afterwards, you should warm up as quickly as possible. And where better to do that than in one of the heated mulled wine stands around the ice rink? The ice rink at the Neptune Fountain is part of the Christmas market at the Rotes Rathaus.
There is a lot to see here besides the ice skating rink: A 50-meter-high panoramic Ferris wheel offers a spectacular view over the city and the market. Santa Claus also flies over the Christmas market in his sleigh several times a day, and there are nostalgic carousels and rides for children.
