At the heart of the park is a body of water covering approximately 10,000 square meters, surrounded by well-maintained paths, old trees, and numerous flower beds. Especially in spring and summer, the park transforms into a colorful oasis with thousands of blooming roses and an exceptionally relaxed atmosphere.
Today’s park dates back to the Luisenstädtischer Canal , which was built in the mid-19th century according to plans by the Prussian landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné . Following the destruction of World War II and the division of Berlin, the area fell into disrepair for a long time before the Engelbecken was extensively reconstructed after reunification.
Idyllic paths wind through the green space around the pond, offering beautiful views of the water and the historic surroundings at every turn. Numerous places to sit invite you to linger, while the rose beds and the peaceful atmosphere create a stark contrast to the big-city life just a few minutes away.
