Travelers between Paris and Berlin can look forward to a new direct connection from December 2024. Thanks to the cooperation between Deutsche Bahn and SNCF (Société nationale des chemins de fer français), a high-speed line will be set up that runs from the German capital to the French metropolis without changing trains. The journey takes around 8 hours and tickets are available from just 59 euros, including a seat reservation in second class.
These are the timetables for the new train connection
The train will depart daily at 11:54 from Berlin Central Station and reach Paris Gare de l’Est at 19:55. Conversely, the train will leave Paris at 9:55 am and arrive in Berlin at 6:03 pm. Along the way, it stops in Strasbourg, Karlsruhe and Frankfurt – perfect opportunities for stopovers on the route!
The news of this new train service follows the resumption of the night train route between Paris and Berlin in December 2023, which returned after a 9-year break. After just a few months, however, the night train was temporarily suspended due to construction work. This makes the announcement of the new, fast daytime connection all the more pleasing.
New direct connection to replace flights
This new Paris-Berlin train connection not only offers comfort, but also a more environmentally friendly alternative to air travel. While a flight on this route generates around 200 kg of CO2 per person, the CO2 emissions from train travel are only around 2 kg. So if sustainability is important to you, this connection is the perfect solution! Although the ticket price for the new connection is still higher than that of plane tickets, this is mainly due to the fact that kerosene fuel is not taxed in Europe. However, the train can score points for its climate friendliness and stress-free travel without having to wait for hours at the airport – if it is on time.
This new direct connection between Paris and Berlin is part of the Franco-German cooperation that has existed since 2007 and is an important step towards greener mobility in Europe.
