Flowers, blossoms, trees— nature is gradually unfolding all its splendor. While March has already delighted us with snowdrops and crocuses, the larger spring favorites are now in the starting blocks. Brandenburg’s largest tulip market has already begun, and cherry blossoms are also appearing more and more frequently. In Berlin, you can experience them at various locations. Of course, Brandenburg’s longest cherry blossom avenue is the obvious choice—but we have a quieter tip for anyone who really wants to soak in nature: Lilienthal Park in Berlin-Lichterfelde is one of the almost hidden spots for cherry blossoms—and that’s exactly what makes it so special.

Around the historic Fliegeberg stand numerous Japanese ornamental cherry trees that unfold into a dense, almost cloud-like sea of blossoms in the spring. The blooming in Lilienthal Park follows the typical Berlin sakura cycle: The first blossoms usually appear as early as late March, and the cherry blossoms typically reach their peak between early and mid-April. By the end of April or early May at the latest, the spectacle is over. The exact timing, however, depends heavily on the weather— a warm March can bring the bloom forward significantly, while cold nights can delay it.
The full bloom phase usually lasts only about ten to fourteen days. After that, the petals begin to fall relatively quickly, creating the typical “blossom rain.” Overall, however, the experience spans about two to four weeks—from the first buds to the flowers’ complete fading. So if you want to catch the perfect moment, you’ll need good timing and a little luck.

A major advantage of Lilienthal Park is its peaceful atmosphere. Compared to better-known spots like the TV Asahi Cherry Blossom Avenue or the Gardens of the World, it’s significantly less touristy here, more relaxed, and has an almost local feel. Added to this is the special combination of blossoms and views: From Fliegeberg, a sweeping view opens up over the blooming trees, making the spot a particularly beautiful place for photos. The atmosphere on site also contributes to this. Many visitors come specifically for spring photo shoots, and the pink blossoms appear even more vibrant in sunny weather.
