Not every outing has to feature roller coasters, dinosaur figures, or amusement rides. Sometimes it’s the unusual experiences that make a day unforgettable. You might be wondering, what could be more exciting than sliding, climbing, or observing animals up close? How about taking off your shoes and exploring an entire park barefoot? The Beelitz-Heilstätten Barefoot Park is a particularly interesting destination southwest of Berlin because it combines nature, physical activity, and an adventure park.

Spanning 15 hectares of woodland, a total ofabout 4 kilometers of barefoot trails windthrough 72 adventure stations. The operator describes the facility as Brandenburg’s largest nature adventure park. The Barefoot Park is located in Beelitz-Heilstätten in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district. It is situated right next to the historic Beelitz Sanatorium and in the immediate vicinity of the well-known treetop trail. The address is Straße nach Fichtenwalde 13, 14547 Beelitz.
Instead of a traditional amusement park with rides, the focus here is on experiencing nature with as many of the senses as possible. Visitors take off their shoes and walk through the forest over a wide variety of natural materials. The grounds consist of deciduous, coniferous, and birch forests. The barefoot trails can be combined, allowing visitors to decide for themselves how long they’d like to explore. Along these paths, for example, you’ll walk over fine sand, coarse gravel, muddy clay, and pine cones. Wading through cold water is also part of the experience.

It’s not just about feeling different surfaces underfoot. Some stations focus on sounds, smells, balance, dexterity, and knowledge of nature. The interactive elements include, for example, touch and smell stations, listening tubes, a tree telephone, a group xylophone, a ball maze, and various dexterity challenges. The grounds also feature a herb garden.
Some sections lead through muddy loam and mud. However, those looking for a less extreme experience don’t have to complete every single station. The stations can be bypassed via the regular bark mulch paths. The course is partly based on Kneipp’s teachings, which include, in particular, wading through cold water. The operator combines walking barefoot with exercise, sensory perception, and slowing down in nature. There’s also a large playground for families. It’s located right next to the Barefoot Café, so adults can sit there while the children play on the adjacent playground.
