Supermarket surprises are nothing new in Berlin. It feels like there’s constantly a new, exciting opening meant to make shopping in the capital even easier—or at least more interesting. From the XXL supermarket in the Mall of Berlin to the extraordinary rooftop farm at Germany’s largest Rewe store, Berlin already has plenty to offer. And tomorrow, another highlight will be added to the list: At the Park Center Treptow, Am Treptower Park 14, independent Edeka retailer Nancy Schnelle will open a new Edeka E-Center on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

It’s moving into the space formerly occupied by the Real supermarket, which closed in June 2022. This means the shopping center will once again have a major grocery anchor tenant after about four years. With approximately 3,700 m² of retail space, the store is exceptionally large and carries about 50,000 items. About 70 employees are expected to work there. Operator Nancy Schnelle already runs three other Edeka stores in Berlin; Treptow will be her fourth.
Nancy and Nico Schnelle are fans of the U.S. and have traveled there several times. Their other stores also incorporate U.S.-themed elements—at the new Treptow store, the concept explicitly revolves around Texas. The design features wooden elements, large-format murals of Texas landscapes, Western-style design elements, and even cactus-shaped ceiling lights. The design was created by Thelen Werbetechnik; Erwin Krug & Sohn and OHM were involved in the store construction.
The concept is quite comprehensive: There are service counters for meat/sausage, cheese, fish, and baked goods, as well as a salad bar, a dedicated grill section, and dry-aged pork and beef. The “die fischwerker” concept is being launched in the fish department, while a “Sushi Circle” offers sushi and vegetarian alternatives. Organic, regional, vegetarian, and vegan products are also set to play a larger role.

The “Saloon”
The café has 50 seats and offers baked goods, snacks, hot beverages, breakfast, and lunch. Spelt bread will be baked right in the store after the dough has rested for 20 hours. There are 17 checkout lanes in total: nine regular lanes plus eight self-checkout lanes. In addition, there is free Wi-Fi and 300 customer parking spaces; parking is free with a purchase of 5 euros or more. The store and café are scheduled to be open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. stores+shops
The store itself opens on October 1. In addition, the Park Center is hosting an opening celebration on October 1 and 2, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The program includes Radio TEDDY, a photo booth, an activity where visitors can make a smoothie by pedaling a bicycle, as well as performances by the KungerKiezTheater, Tanzpark Constanze, Fitness am Park, and LaserLimbo. The activities are free of charge. The official Edeka ceremony is scheduled for October 1 at 1:30 p.m. ; the event area opens as early as 1 p.m. Ulli Zelle is set to host the event. Source
Watson also reports that a six-week series of grand-opening promotions, raffles, and tastings is planned to kick off the event.
