Wine Hike in Werder (Havel): Fine Wines and 700 Years of History on the Wachtelberg
The Wachtelberg looks back on a vibrant tradition that dates back to the Cistercian monks over 700 years ago. Today, a staggering 30,000 grapevines grow here on an area of just under 6.5 hectares. The mild microclimate along the Havel River allows excellent white and red wines to thrive in the region.
On a guided wine hike (the next one is already this Friday, August 15), you’ll stroll leisurely through the sun-drenched vineyards, enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the idyllic Havel Valley landscape, and let experienced winemakers explain the secrets of winegrowing in the Mark region.
Tasting right on site
The centerpiece of your outing is the Weintiene, a rustic wine tavern right in the vineyard. Not only does your tour start here, but it’s also the perfect place to really enjoy yourself with fresh bread, cheese, and, of course, plenty of wine.
The tasting during the hike usually includes five different wines that impressively showcase the region’s flavor diversity—from the crisp Müller-Thurgau to the full-bodied Regent—right in your glass.
Here’s how to reach your destination in a relaxed way
If you’re traveling by car, take the B1 or drive along the western Berlin Ring (A10) to the Werder exit.
By public transit: The RE1 takes you from Berlin Central Station to Werder (Havel) Station in 40 minutes. From there, it’s just a short walk or a brief bus ride to your destination.
