Life in a big city like Berlin is wonderful, no question about it. There is hardly any other place in Germany that offers as many opportunities as here: week after week , there is always something new to discover. But precisely because life in the capital can be so hectic, breaks in the countryside are all the more important. A short trip to the village can make the weekend perfect. How about a visit to Ringenwalde?
Ringenwalde – or more precisely, Temmen-Ringenwalde – is located about 80 kilometers northeast of Berlin in the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve in the district of Uckermark. The area was even settled in the Neolithic Age: a burial ground is around 3,500 years old!
A surprising village

You might not expect it from a village, but there’s actually quite a lot going on here. The highlight is definitely the castle park with its ancient trees and ponds. Even though the original castle is unfortunately no longer standing, the park is a prime example of English-style garden design. You can learn more about the history in the village museum.
The village church also stands out. It dates back to the 13th century and has a valuable Schuke organ. Concerts are held here regularly, which are known far beyond the region.
Ringenwalde is also famous for a very special inn. At Zum Grünen Baum, you can try slow food and game dishes sourced directly from the surrounding forests. It is the culinary flagship of the region! Take a look at the menu to get an idea of what’s on offer.
The perfect place for nature lovers

Since Ringenwalde is located in the middle of the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, nature is of course the main reason to visit. If you enjoy hiking or cycling, this is the place for you. The village is characterized by the typical Uckermark terminal moraine landscape and surrounded by old beech forests. The “Rundweg um die Ringenwalder Seen” (Ringenwalde Lakes Circular Trail) is particularly recommended.
And as this suggests, anyone who wants to take a dip in the cool water when the temperature is right will find the perfect opportunity around Ringenwalde. The largest lakes in the municipality are, for example, Lake Briesensee, Lake Großer Kelpinsee, Lake Libbesickesee, Lake Lübelowsee, Lake Düstersee, and Lake Klare See.
