Many say that there are only a few animals in Berlin – but in addition to the many wild foxes, rabbits, wild boars and the occasional “lion”, the city also has a number of petting zoos and animal enclosures for great animal visits. We have picked out the best ones!
1st Britzer Garten
In addition to the many playgrounds, flowerbeds and lakes, the Britzer Gardens also have a lot to offer in terms of animals. Here you will find a large animal enclosure that is home to sheep, goats, ducks and donkeys. You will also find wandering paddocks where some animals are used as live lawnmowers.
Sangerhauser Weg 1, Britz
2. domain Dahlem
Domäne Dahlem is almost like a trip to the countryside! You can stroll around between fields and paddocks and get up close and personal with horses, cows and pigs. In addition, workshops and project days invite you to learn more about agriculture and even lend a hand yourself.
Königin-Luise-Straße 48, Dahlem
3rd Charlottenburg goat farm
The origins of this petting zoo lie in a citizens’ initiative and it is still run as a neighborhood association. Surprise, surprise, there are lots of goats and a few chickens here. You can also lend a hand on selected action days.
Danckelmannstraße 16, Charlottenburg
4th children’s farm on the Görlitzer
The grounds of Görlitzer Park are home to a small but excellent petting zoo that was founded in 1981! Donkeys, chickens, geese, goats, rabbits and ponies welcome you here and look forward to your visit. There are also projects and workshops on offer, where you can help muck out the stables and animal enclosures, for example, or work together with teachers on site.
Wiener Straße 59B, Kreuzberg
5. children’s farm Knirpsenfarm
Welcome to the Malchow Green Campus! Here you can meet over 160 animals, including classic farm animals and a few exotic guests such as chinchillas and zebra finches. If you want, you can even adopt an animal. The Knirpsenfarm children’s farm is a registered association that offers you lots of fun on its 1,000 square meter site. You can arrive by bike or bus – and then it’s time to let off steam!
Malchower Chaussee 2, Hohenschönhausen
6th Mauerplatz children’s farm
The Mauerplatz children’s farm used to be a piece of rubble at the Berlin Wall, but is now a cozy home for ducks, chickens, geese, sheep, goats, donkeys and ponies. Volunteers look after the animals here, who are not just seen as livestock, but as part of a peaceful coexistence. Because the philosophy of the children’s farm is: people need animals.
Leuschnerdamm 9, Kreuzberg
7. colorful children’s farm
The Kinderbunte Bauernhof in Wedding is specially designed for neighborhood children, who can even adopt animals here. Goats, sheep and ponies bring a piece of the countryside to the city, and ducks and chickens also feel at home. Some guinea pigs are waiting to be stroked. There’s also an adventure playground next door where kids can really let off steam.
