The culinary diversity in Berlin is enormous. Whether authentic pizza, the finest sushi, or hearty burgers—you can find almost anything in the capital. A sweet delicacy also began its triumphant march in Berlin a few years ago: Pastéis de Nata. These crispy custard tarts originally hail from the Belém district of Lisbon. They were invented here by monks at the Jerónimos Monastery in the 18th century . Since 1837, the original Pastéis de Belém have been produced and sold at the factory of the same name. Only six to seven people, including the owners and the head pastry chefs, know the closely guarded recipe, which has remained unchanged since the company was founded. Pastéis de Nata consist of a wafer-thin, buttery puff pastry filled with a creamy mixture of egg yolks, cream, and sugar, then caramelized at high heat . An absolute delight—and there are several spots in Berlin that sell them.
Galão A Pastelaria (center)

Galão A Pastelaria, located on Weinbergsweg and in business since 2011, is a little piece of Portugal in Mitte. In addition to first-class, classic Pastéis de Nata, it serves the typical Galão milk coffee, hearty toasts, other traditional baked goods, and also reimagined Pastéis—such as those with coconut or in a vegan version. In a cozy neighborhood atmosphere, you can perfectly watch the hustle and bustle of the city here.
Portuguese Bakery Café Alice (Neukölln)

Opened in 2018, Café Alice brings an authentic Lisbon vibe to the Schillerkiez neighborhood in Neukölln. In addition to the daily fresh-baked, wonderfully creamy Pastéis de Nata, the bakery entices with traditional delicacies such as Pão de Deus or savory empadas. The bright, modern atmosphere invites you to enjoy everyday life in Berlin over a galão.
Natas Berlin (Weißensee)

Natas Berlin is the go-to spot for anyone looking for this Portuguese treasure in Weißensee. This specialty pastry shop delights with handmade Pastéis de Nata that captivate with their crispy crust and perfect vanilla cream. Whether at the Arminius Market Hall or straight from the bakery—every bite here tastes like a vacation.
OUR CAFÉ

Although we are in the Scandinavian Quarter, UNSER CAFÉ on Dänenstraße doesn’t bake cinnamon rolls (kanelsnegl), but rather fantastic Pastéis de Nata from Portugal. It’s a cozy retreat in Prenzlauer Berg, known among other things for its excellent homemade bread. In a family-friendly atmosphere, you can enjoy Portuguese hospitality, first-class coffee, and a selection of fresh baked goods prepared with love.
PadoK (Zehlendorf)

Although the name pays homage to Brazilian bakeries (Padoca), the art of baking is celebrated here at the highest level. The owners bring their passion for pastries from South America and Portugal to Zehlendorf. Their Pastéis de Nata are characterized by an extremely crispy puff pastry and a perfectly balanced cream. It is one of the best places in southwest Berlin for high-quality artisanal pastries.
