Pasta lovers, take note! There are two reasons to get excited: Not only is a popular Italian restaurant from the Big Mamma Group opening another location in Berlin soon, but starting tomorrow, pasta will practically be raining from the sky. You heard right: As part of a new world record attempt , enough pasta will be distributed to keep you stocked up for the next few weeks—and maybe even months. On Saturday, September 26, 2026, SIRPLUS, together with various partners in Berlin, plans to set an unusual world record . In the “World Record in Pasta Rescue,” more than 500,000 packages of pasta will be saved from going to waste and then distributed for free.

The event will take place at Holzmarkt 25, right on the Spree River, under the motto “Zero Waste for Zero Hunger.” It focuses on food that is still edible but is no longer sold by supermarkets. With this campaign, SIRPLUS aims to raise awareness that surplus food can be saved and reused instead of ending up in the trash. Some of the rescued products come from partners such as ratzfatz.
The scale of the campaign is enormous: SIRPLUS aims to break the 500,000-pack mark for rescued pasta. This builds on a rescue campaign the company previously carried out in 2025. According to SIRPLUS, 187,076 products—including 75,000 schnitzels—were saved at that time with the help of more than 3,000 participants.
This year’s campaign aims to turn this into a new world record attempt. SIRPLUS describes the event as a community-driven food rescue campaign in which as many people as possible can help out while also learning more about food waste and sustainable consumption.

Limited-edition goodie bags serve as an added incentive. According to SIRPLUS, there are 1,000 bags in total. The bags have a stated value of more than 70 euros and contain, among other things, ten packages of “ratzfatz” pasta as well as other rescued food items, most of which are vegan. To receive a goodie bag, registration via the SIRPLUS app is required. The event itself, however, is open to everyone, while the goodie bags are available in limited quantities. If the quota has already been reached, SIRPLUS says spots may become available again if registered participants do not pick up their bags.
The campaign also has a social aspect. For every registration for the world record attempt, SIRPLUS donates a school meal through Mary’s Meals. According to the company, more than one million meals have already been provided in this way.
In addition to the actual world record attempt, there will be an accompanying program at the Holzmarkt. Talks, panel discussions, and workshops on food waste and sustainability are planned. The goal is not only to save as many packages of pasta as possible but also to educate the public about food management and waste prevention.
