Not that Germany doesn’t already have enough to offer when it comes to theme parks – after all, “the best theme park in the world” is located in Baden-Württemberg. For the tenth time in a row, Europa-Park Rust has secured the Golden Award this year, leaving big names such as Universal Studios and Disney in its wake. As impressive as this theme park is with its attractions and roller coasters, it is still a long journey from Berlin. Of course, there are great amusement and theme parks in the Berlin area that are perfect for a day out. But what if we told you that a very special, international surprise awaits you from 2026? It’s not just fans of theme parks who should be curious now – fans of comics and Gallic heroes in particular should read carefully: In just a few months’ time, the new themed area “Idefix’ Adventureland” will open at the Belantis theme park near Leipzig. And this is just the start of a major, long-term project.
Around 40 minutes from Paris is Parc Astérix, which is regularly ranked alongside Walt Disney as one of the top amusement parks in France. Not only known there, the original park based around the cult characters Asterix and Obelix has also long since made a name for itself internationally. In April 2025, the French theme park group Compagnie des Alpes (CdA) took over the Belantis theme park and is clearly focusing on long-term growth. The decision to expand in Leipzig was made for several reasons: the large catchment area, the excellent transport links in the region with proximity to Berlin and Dresden and over 80 hectares of development area including generous land reserves for future expansion projects.
The “Idefix’ Adventureland” family area will start in spring 2026 with the opening of the Belantis season on March 28. New attractions will be added to the existing offer and the colorful universe of Asterix, Obelix and Idefix will come to life. This area marks the start of the first “Parc Astérix Germany” and thus the first location outside France, which is to be fully realized by 2030/31. The new, lovingly designed adventure world is particularly aimed at families with children. As the name “Idefix’ Adventureland” suggests, the loyal little dog from the comics is the focus of the themed area. Children can go on a playful journey of discovery and experience exciting adventures here. A total of four new children’s rides, a spacious playground, a meet & greet area with popular characters, a new kiosk and a souvenir store await you.
