Are you once again faced with the question: Where can I get my Christmas tree this year? Or will we still be doing this in 2024? Aren’t Christmas trees actually harmful to the environment? For all those who decide to buy a fir tree anyway and still need a few last-minute tips, we have a few addresses where you can simply choose the most beautiful tree yourself at the plantation and cut it down right there. This will turn your Christmas tree shopping into a little adventure! As Berlin itself unfortunately doesn’t have any large plantations for cutting Christmas trees due to its limited agricultural land, it’s worth taking a short trip to the surrounding area of Brandenburg.
Christmas trees from the G. Schubert nursery
The G. Schubert nursery is located in Grüntal in Sydower Fliess, where you can cut your own Christmas trees every day from 9 am to 4 pm until December 23. Here you can choose between different types of trees, including Nordmann fir, blue spruce, red spruce and Colorado fir – so there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone! Saws and transport trolleys are provided free of charge and you can also obtain various types of fir greenery, (undecorated) Advent wreaths and regional potatoes and honey from Grüntal.

Organic Christmas trees in Mellensee
The small town of Mellensee in Brandenburg is about an hour’s drive from Berlin. A Christmas tree forest awaits you here, where you can choose the right fir tree for Christmas in comfort. In addition to fir trees that you can cut yourself, you can also choose fir trees in pots to accompany you at Christmas, which will then cut a fine figure in the garden or in the forest. What’s special here: All trees are grown close to nature according to ecological principles. This makes them less problematic than traditionally grown firs, where unfortunately no consideration is given to the biodiversity of the cultivated area. This leads to insect mortality and contaminated soils due to excessive fertilizers. The decision is up to you, but in any case you will find a suitable fir tree for every situation.

Fir trees from Behrendt’s Hof
The Christmas forest at Behrendt’s Hof in Nackel is similar. Until December 23rd, you can choose the most beautiful fir tree and channel your inner lumberjack. If that’s too bloody for you, you can also buy potted fir trees here, which can either be kept as houseplants after Christmas or put out into the wild until next year.

Cutting Christmas trees at the Werderaner Tannenhof
One of the largest plantations is located in Werder an der Havel – just over an hour’s drive from Berlin. On a leisurely exploration tour through the artificial forest, you can take your time to choose the tree that appeals to you the most and ‘cut’ it yourself on site. You will find the tools for this on site. For an extra charge, you can also have the tree delivered to you – or shoulder it yourself and transport it by car. After a successful hunt, you can get in the mood for Christmas with mulled wine and delicacies or let off steam on the ice skating rink on site.

Fir trees from the Krämerwaldhof
Our last recommendation is located in an extensive nature reserve around 30 minutes from Berlin. At Krämerwaldhof you will also find a huge selection of different types of fir trees. However, you will need to book a slot in advance to be able to cut your own fir tree. If you wish, you can also plant a fresh cutting directly to make up for your “offense” to Mother Nature.
