Have you recovered from the New Year’s Eve celebrations yet? Berlin never sleeps and even now, in the middle of January, there are more unforgettable club nights on the program. The CTM Festival (short for Club Transmediale) is coming back to Berlin from January 23 to February 1! The festival is a platform for “adventurous music and art”, as it says on the website. As an international festival for experimental music and digital culture, it has been held annually in Berlin since 1999.
The focus is on music that goes beyond the mainstream. This includes electronic music, avant-garde (contemporary compositions and performance art) and interdisciplinarity: music that merges with light art, dance or digital technology such as AI. Under this year’s motto “dissonate < > resonate”, the CTM shows that friction is sometimes the most beautiful sound in the world. This theme runs like a common thread through the artists booked and the discussion panels.
Experience these locations and program highlights
The best thing about the CTM Festival: you get to go to places that you would otherwise only see with a lot of luck or a strict dress code. For example, the festival takes place in Berghain! It takes over the most legendary club in the world for exclusive sound performances. The heart of the festival also beats in the Radialsystem directly on the Spree for concerts and exciting talks.
In addition to the aforementioned clubs in Berlin, the RSO.Berlin, the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Morphine Raum and the Haus der Visionäre are also taking part. Here you can experience various live performances, talks, exhibitions and premieres. It’s best to take a look at the detailed program to make sure you don’t miss any of the highlights.
By the way: the CTM was originally founded as a musical program to accompany the transmediale media art festival. Although both festivals are now independent, they still take place at the same time. They often share venues and offer a joint combined ticket, as their themes (technology, art, society) are closely linked. So if you want the full package, get the Connect Pass among the tickets to be able to commute back and forth between the two festivals.
