Anyone on vacation in this country already knows it: Germany has some fascinating corners. We have two seas, the Alps, several low mountain ranges and national parks, forests, heaths and vineyards. The following five places alone can compete with any other country in Europe when it comes to beauty.
1. Saxon Switzerland
The Saxon Switzerland National Park offers dramatic scenery to the south-east of Dresden. It is the only rock national park in the country, and the Bastei Bridge in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains (see below) is its flagship. Ideal for hiking excursions and short trips.
2. Eibsee
The Eibsee on the Zugspitze impresses with its clear, green-tinged water at 1,000 meters above sea level. Set against the backdrop of the Bavarian Alps, it is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Germany. Here you can swim, fish, boat and stand-up paddle.
3. Neuschwanstein Castle
Widely known is the Neuschwanstein Castle. The palace of the shy King Ludwig II was opened to the public in 1886. Since then, it has been a magnet for the public and an international tourist spot in the Allgäu.
4. Black Forest
The largest low mountain range in Germany with its evergreen forests and small villages is always good for a relaxing vacation. If you like mysticism, legends and fairy tales, this is the place for you. If you like hiking, you should set off on the Schluchtensteig – a six-day hike covering 120 kilometers.
5. Königssee
An unbeatable panorama is offered at the Königssee in Berchtesgaden. The Berchtesgadener Bergland is ideal for a wonderful vacation in the countryside.
