Berlinale 2025 – the 75th Berlin International Film Festival has been running since last week. World-famous directors, producers and actors are currently flocking to our capital. But the festival is more than just a meeting place for stars – distributors, buyers, film experts, journalists and bloggers from all over the world are also attending. During this time, Berlin becomes more than just a place for first-class gastronomy, parties and leisure activities – it becomes a place where films are shown that move us, make us laugh and inspire us. To pick out the best of them, we have prepared an exclusive selection of films for you!
Our film picks for the Berlinale 2025
1. “Delicious” by Nele Mueller-Stöfen
Figs have never been so juicy and vacation food never so tempting – the German family’s vacation fairytale seems perfect until Carla Diaz is hired as a housekeeper. But the girl soon becomes much more – she becomes part of the family. And not only that: she has her very own plan. The family’s life is soon turned upside down. Nele Mueller-Stöfen serves up a mix of genres in her impressive debut film and was selected in the Panorama category. The film will be shown at the festival on February 18 and you can watch it on Netflix from March 7.
2. “Welcome Home Baby” by Andreas Prochaska
Now it’s getting dark: a promising psychological thriller is coming up – directed by Andreas Prochaska, who already impressed with his award-winning Austro-Western “Das finstere Tal” about a sadistic clan of farmers. His new film delves deep into questions of trauma, identity and self-empowerment. At the center of the film is Berlin emergency doctor Judith (played by Julia Franz Richter), who gets caught up in a maelstrom of psychological abysses on her return home. Space and time begin to dissolve – and with them the boundaries of reality. You can finally experience the film on the big screen this fall!
3. “Hot Milk” by Rebecca Lenkiewicz
Before we get to the plot of the film, we should first highlight the impressive trio of actors: Fiona Shaw, English acting veteran and unforgettably obnoxious Aunt Petunia Dursley from “Harry Potter”, Emma Mackey, best known as the quick-witted Maeve from “Sex Education”, and Vicky Krieps. This legendary constellation embodies mother, daughter and lover. On their trip to Almería, mother and daughter seek the help of the faith healer Dr. Gómez. While the inexplicable paralysis symptoms of daughter Sofia (Mackey) are being investigated, she meets the seductive Ingrid (Krieps), who not only turns the mother-daughter relationship upside down, but also changes her life.
4. “The Light” by Tom Tykwer
Not only because the Berlinale opened with this film, but also because it is a true masterpiece! The film shows the modern way of life of a family in a fascinating way, as Tricia Tuttle, the new director of the festival, has already noted. After four seasons of “Babylon Berlin”, Tykwer is back with this top film. The mysterious Syrian housekeeper Farrah reveals hidden feelings that change the family’s life. Farrah puts a plan into action that reveals human existence in a completely new dimension. This film can be seen in cinemas from March 20.
