Anyone landing at BER on or after January 1, 2027, will no longer find a line of Berlin taxis waiting there. Berlin taxis will then no longer be allowed to wait for passengers at the airport. Pre-booked rides will still be permitted, and the FEX airport express will continue to run into the city. This was announced by the Berlin Senate Department for Mobility, Transportation, Climate Protection, and the Environment. The Dahme-Spreewald district, in whose territory BER is located, has terminated the agreement with Berlin effective December 31, 2026. The agreement had been in effect since September 15, 2020. Most recently, under this regulation, 550 Berlin taxis were permitted to pick up passengers at BER. This right will end at the turn of the year. Anyone who has previously boarded a Berlin taxi at the taxi stand without a prior reservation will have to make other arrangements starting in January.

What’s still allowed
Taxis remain an option; only the way to get there is changing. Pickups by advance reservation remain permitted. There are still three ways to order a Berlin taxi:
- by phone with the taxi company,
- via a dispatch center,
- via the app.
If you’re planning on traveling with luggage, children, or a late arrival time, it’s best to book your ride before your flight departs. That way, you’ll know for sure who will be waiting for you at BER. You should clarify the details of the pickup—such as the meeting point—with the respective provider when you book. We do not have any information on this.

The alternative: the FEX
The most important connection that does not require a reservation is the Airport Express. The FEX runs four times per hour between BER and Berlin Central Station, taking about 23 minutes. From Central Station, travelers can reach the government district and the city center, where they have access to additional connections.
For anyone heading toward Mitte or the main train station anyway, the FEX is the most direct route. Taxi rides remain a practical option, especially for destinations located off the train route. Starting January 1, the rule is: book in advance.
The previous regulation will remain in effect until the deadline. Anyone arriving at BER in the coming weeks can use the taxi stand as usual.
