Every Sunday, people party barefoot in this underground club: in a living room atmosphere, you can groove relaxed on carpets – a cultural format awarded by the Berlin Senate.
Why bother with unnecessary footwear that only gets in the way? The best way to dance is barefoot or in socks — and that's exactly what this club understands: the atmosphere is pleasantly homely and relaxed.
Berlin’s club culture is known around the world – “once to Berghain” is the wish of many people around the globe. They have heard about this unique party experience, but also about how difficult it is to even get in. Strict door rules, even stricter dress codes – that’s what Berlin clubs are known for. But in fact, this doesn’t apply to all of them: the smaller, more hidden underground clubs in the city are breaking away from these rigid rules and focusing instead on pure sound . Most of them are small, dark, intense rooms where you can feel techno with every fiber of your being. This includes the Beate-Uwe-Club in Berlin-Mitte, which exudes a real living room vibe. What makes it special is that on Sundays, there’s a party where you can only dance barefoot or in socks on carpets! Where else in Berlin can you find something like this?

“Beate Barfuß” is a regular Sunday event where people dance to downtempo or relaxed house/electronic music rather than classic techno. And they do so without shoes – whether completely barefoot or in socks is up to you. The floor is covered with carpets, creating that typical barefoot vibe and giving meaning to the name “carpet dance.” When you feel the soft fabric under your feet and hear the sound in your ears, the living room-like atmosphere of the club immediately transports you to the feeling of a lively house party. On Sundays, the club transforms into a much less intense, more relaxed version of itself than on Friday and Saturday nights. The underlying concept is: slow-paced dancing, a cozy atmosphere, and a strong sense of community – almost like a living room dance floor.

The club is located near the Jannowitzbrücke and only a short distance from Alexanderplatz. The barefoot parties take place regularly on Sundays, usually in the late afternoon and into the evening, starting around 5 p.m. In addition, there are regular special editions, such as anniversary carpet dance events, some of which span several years. Admission prices are moderate, often in the mid double digits (around $5–15, sometimes a little more). The dress code is deliberately relaxed: dancing barefoot or in socks is expressly encouraged.
The club attaches great importance to diversity, respect, and community —it sees itself as a safe space where people from all walks of life are welcome and should feel safe and comfortable. Beate Uwe was honored by the Berlin Senate as part of Club Culture Day—a sign of its importance to Berlin’s nightlife.
