Tucked away in a leafy courtyard on Bergmannstraße lies a literary retreat entirely dedicated to Spanish and Latin American literature. The cultural space “andenbuch” offers readers a curated selection of novels, poetry, and essays from across the Spanish-speaking world, away from the noise of the street.
The path to the bookstore leads through a densely planted courtyard with ferns and a small pond. Inside, the collection is spread across two floors connected by a narrow wooden staircase. In addition to new releases—such as the works of Argentine author Mariana Enriquez—the bookstore places an emphasis on reselling: a wide selection of used books gets a second chance here under the sign “Libros viejos y usados.”
A meeting place for literature and exchange
The space is furnished with old typewriters, vintage desks, and works of art, including a portrait of Frida Kahlo. Various quiet seating areas and sofas invite visitors to settle in and read right there in the store.
Beyond simply selling books, andenbuch serves as a local gathering place. Cultural events and workshops are held regularly on the premises, fostering dialogue about Latin American and Spanish culture right in the neighborhood.
